The Humboldt university and Oriental Institute organise a workshop entitled "Dynamics of Change. Agents, Mechanisms and Economics of Transformation in Amdo, P.R. China". The workshop will take place on December 13.-15. 2014.
The focus of this workshop will be a multidisciplinary investigation of ongoing transformation processes involving predominantly the ethnic Tibetan population of Amdo, the North-Eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau currently under the administration of the Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Sichuan and Gansu of the PRC. We focus on this multi-ethnic area as being located at the crossroad of different societies, religions, environments and languages. The study of this region and its peoples offer exceptional comparative perspectives and data for analyzing complex processes of interaction, conflict and transformations among different groups of people, state and its inhabitants, urban and rural lifestyles, changing political, social and economic structures, but also across various historical periods.
