Why was Helena Blavatsky so fascinated by India, Tibet, Hinduism, and Buddhism? This lecture explores how Blavatsky turned to Hindu philosophy, Buddhism, and Asian religious traditions as leverage for formulating a new critical account of the history of knowledge and a new occult vision of reality. For her, ancient wisdom was an authentic key to understanding the lost spiritual structure and hidden laws of the universe, including the evolution of consciousness and the mysteries of time and space. The lecture will show how Blavatsky combined Asian religious ideas with Western esoteric currents shaped by Platonism and occultism, and how her innovations and perspectives laid the groundwork for “the wisdom of the East” becoming such a powerful topic in the modern imagination.
