The Middle East Lecture Series, created in 2017 by Ebru Akcasu and Stefano Taglia, is a series of events sponsored by the Oriental Institute (CAS) and the Department of Middle Eastern Studies (Charles University). MELS features some among the most influential scholars of disciplines such as history, literature and political science of the Near and Middle East. The Series has been conceived to bring together academics, researchers, students as well as the larger public to showcase some of the most recent works carried out on the area and, simultaneously, familiarise the Czech public with an area stretching from modern-day Morocco to Iran and the Arabian Gulf.
