JOB CALL: Postdoctoral Fellowship in South Asian Religions and Islam

Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the study of religion and culture of South Asia, with a particular focus on Islam and its interactions with South Asian religious and cultural traditions. The successful candidate will conduct independent research leading to publications in peer-reviewed international journals (in English), actively participate in the Institute’s academic life (seminars, conferences, workshops), and contribute to strengthening the Institute’s international research networks and outreach activities.

Your profile:

  • PhD awarded within the past three years in a relevant field (this period excludes parental leave and long-term research stays abroad)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Working knowledge of at least one South Asian language
  • Arabic and/or Persian language is strong advantage
     

Employement conditions:

  • Salary: approximately EUR 1,500 per month
  • Full-time employment contract
  • Duration of contract: 1 year (possibility of extention)
  • The starting date: earliest 1st June 2026.
