1. Overview and Definitions:
1.1 The Oriental Institute (OI) of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) is committed to advancing the principles of Open Science to promote transparency, collaboration, and innovation in research. This policy outlines OI's expectations and guidelines for researchers to adopt Open Science practices across all departments within the institute. It covers concepts and practices on open access publication, research data sharing, transparent methodologies, and ethical conduct, with the goal of maximizing the accessibility, reproducibility, and impact of our research.
1.2 This policy is intended for stakeholders involved or affected by the initiative:

- Researchers: The primary data generators and collectors who are responsible for following data management practices outlined in the project's data management plan. This includes documenting data, organizing it, and following data sharing and preservation protocols.
- Data Steward or Data Manager: Person/s responsible for overseeing data management activities within a research project or institution. Their responsibilities include ensuring data compliance, assisting researchers in creating data management plans and facilitating data sharing and preservation.
- Funding Agencies: Agencies that have data management and open science requirements that researchers must follow to receive funding.
- Legal Counsel: Legal experts to be consulted to ensure compliance with data protection, data privacy, and intellectual property laws.
- Data Repository Manager: Data repository manager who is responsible for providing guidance in organizing, preserving, and facilitating access to the data.
- Collaborators and Partners: In collaborative research projects, multiple parties may share responsibilities for data management and open science practices.

2. Open Access to Publications:
2.1 OI supports and encourages researchers to publish their scholarly work in open-access journals, platforms, or repositories.
2.2 Researchers are encouraged to deposit preprints and published version of their publications in open access repositories, particularly in ASEP repository.
3. Data Management and Sharing:
3.1 OI encourages responsible data management practices, including proper documentation, storage, and preservation of research data.
3.2 Researchers are encouraged to share research data in compliance with applicable legal and ethical standards, using ASEP data repository or any recognized data repositories and the standard format these repositories use.
3.3 Specific provisions are provided in the Research Data Management Policy.
4. Transparency and Reproducibility:
4.1 In compliance with European and Czech standards, researchers are expected to use and provide upon request, a detailed and transparent methodologies, materials, and protocols to support the reproducibility of their research.
5. Research Ethics:
5.1 OI observes the Code of Ethics for Researchers of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Code of Ethics of the Oriental Institute.
6. Training and Education:
6.1 OI strives to provide training and resources to help researchers adopt and implement Open Science practices effectively.
6.2 Researchers are updated on best practices and tools related to Open Science.
7. Funding Support:
7.1 OI explores opportunities to support open research, including covering publication fees for open-access journals referred to in Section 2.
8. Monitoring and Compliance:
8.1 OI continuously develops mechanisms to monitor compliance with Open Science policy through assessments and reviews.
9. Collaboration and Partnerships:
9.1 OI encourages collaboration with other research institutions, organizations, and communities that promote Open Science.
9.2 Researchers are encouraged to promote knowledge sharing and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
10. Accessibility and Inclusivity:
10.1 OI ensures that Open Science practices are accessible and inclusive to all researchers, regardless of background or abilities.
